Paulo Almeida is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Before his academic role at UNCW, he served as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Coimbra and the University of Algarve, Portugal. Almeida’s research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of antimicrobial, cytolytic peptides, and cell-penetrating peptides, as well as the formation of research area in lipid membranes concerning the molecular interactions among lipids, and their modulation by proteins and peptides either interacting with or integrated into the membrane. Almeida is a member of the Editorial Board of Biophysical Journal, as well as a member of the Biophysical Society and American Chemical Society. Additionally, he has authored numerous book chapters, serves as an active reviewer for professional journals, and has published a variety of papers.
